How to Adopt a Horse

Dakotah, Dk. B. G., 16.0h, 2006

This wonderful guy was pulled from the killpen early this year. We called him Fritz, and he was quickly adopted by Kelly- she was looking for an all around horse, one she could love and regain her confidence after a bad fall years ago. Fritz was slightly uneven at the trot when Kelly adopted him but with a prepurchase exam and an xray of the ankle (showing old sesamoid fracture), we all felt he would be fine. Renamed Dakotah, he blossomed under Kelly's care- but went lame in his LF about a month or two back. Subsequent xrays showed significantly reduced cartilage in the joint and other "junk"- he ran 22 times in less than two years with never any time off, so it looks like they probably injected him a lot to keep him running and it finally caught up to him. We felt terrible for Kelly because she truly loves him-but she knew we would take him back and find him a great home.

Dakotah is pasture sound and living out 24/7 barefoot. Our vet feels he will be fine as a companion horse and for light trail work. He is kind and smart and gentle.

Adoption fee $1- and he MUST come back to us in the event his adopter cannot keep him.
