Great Composer, b.g., 16.0h, 2004 Compy is so cool, and he is a real survivor. He was a decent runner, competing at some good tracks- and then after his career tailed off, he somehow ended up in Philadelphia, racing in match races in Fairmount Park with inner city guys. He finally landed at the auction as a lead in with a 'signed paper' and we bought him, not knowing anything but that he looked like a nice sound horse that was headed to a dark place. As we were loading him, his former owner (an urban cowboy) approached us and showed us a video of a match race he won, complete with western saddle. All we can say is phew, safe at last...... He is a bit studdish meeting new horses but all he does is the stallion nicker where his whole body shakes. He is turned out with a herd (and was out with a mare too) and has never dropped down or acted aggressive--he just does the typical squeal and smack the ground like most horses do when they meet someone new in the field. We think he was probably given steroids and those should wear off in the coming month. He has great ground and stall manners and is lovely to ride. Good mover, very steady, takes a lot of leg, stops and goes easily. No left lead yet but we will get it soon. Not at all spooky, very willing, and a lovely hack. You have to figure he is good with hustle and bustle bc he lived in the city!
