Rocky Blue, b.g., 16.1h, 2003

This guy has been down a LONG road. Jean first met Rocky years ago while in Rick Porter's racing stable, and was hoping to retire him safely once his racing career was over. Because he was an honest, successful runner (61 sts, 16 wins, $271K), she had to follow him through several owners and tracks. In spite of a promise from his trainer last year to call us when he was through racing, he ended up in a kill pen, and then back on the racetrack! We heard rumors of soundness issues now and then, and when he started racing again, the track management had vets look very closely to make sure he wasn't going to break down during a race- they couldn't find a reason to scratch him so Rocky kept running and bringing in checks here and there. FINALLY, after much persistence, Jean was able to buy this guy and retire him. We had him shipped to a farm where he was gelded and after a month, we brought him to the rescue.

Once here, we were very happy to see that his ankles looked decent, he seems to have good range of motion and no unsoundness that we can see. He is solid and honest to ride. He loves treats, including mints and sweet potatoes. Ready for a new career- we  know he will do his best at whatever is asked of him.
