In Time for Holiday Giving--

Nonny and the Peppermint Lady

Susan Kearney, the author of Nonny and the Peppermint Lady, is also the founder of Friends of Twilight. This novel, while fictional, is a composite of the author's experiences with real horses at the race track, in auction situations, and at work and play. Part of the proceeds from the sale of Nonny and the Peppermint Lady will go toward the work that Friends of Twilight does on behalf of MidAtlantic Horse Rescue.

"Nonny and the Peppermint Lady is an engaging, heartwarming story that gives an honest picture of what awaits many thoroughbreds once their racing days are done. Nonny's life after racing was almost cut short by the band of the auctioneer's gavel, but she was lucky and survived to enrich the lives of those around her. This story is a testament to what ordinary, everyday ex-racehorses like Nonny can achieve: full, productive lives when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, in America today, thousands of thoroughbreds like Nonny do not get that chance."
Beverly Strauss, Executive Director, MidAtlantic Horse Rescue

A big thank you to Thoroughbred Charities of America for their 2012 grant. TCA gave us our first grant back when we had a vision and a plan and three rescued thoroughbreds. They have supported us every year since then. This is such a wonderful organization- the racing industry and its stars--the horses-- are better off because of their efforts.......
