Special Needs Assisted Placements

These horses are not at our farm, rather interested adopters should contact the current owner directly. The current owner will handle all of the arrangements- we are just trying to help some of these horses find new homes. In exchange for listing these horses, we are asking for a small tax deductible donation to the rescue.

Super first pony! Ch. gelding, 13.2h, 18 yrs. Joker has been used extensively for lessons and trails. Sound and sane, perfect canter for first timer, steady and safe to the jumps. Does not like a bit but goes perfectly in a hackamore or bosal. Friendly and no bad habits. Lots to offer. Barefoot and easy to keep. Good to work around. Ponies like this are hard to find! $1400
Email beverlyastrauss@comcast.net for a video of Joker jumping. or call 610-405-0607

Miss Hollywould (Mamma)

Quarter Horse (not registered) used in a lesson program for one year. She has lots of energy for trail riding and loves to paper chase. She was diagnosed with navicular disease, much is managed very well with corrective shoeing and a small daily dose of Isoxosuprine. She will make a quiet mount for a small adult or child for trail riding or light ring work including small jumps, less than 2'. A donation will be made to MAHR upon her sale. Please contact Lisa Capp 717-917-0887 or lisawaltz@comcast.net

Thunderplantation: Free to good home with a donation to MAHR. He is up to date on shots and coggins.  Thunder is a 10 year old Tb gelding that we got in September as a sale project.  He was an event horse (see attached photo) and had some experience in the jumper ring.  He showed lots of potential; lots of scope and talent.  Last summer I showed him at a local Hunter show, at Devon in the hunt teams and a few jumper shows  at 3’6”- 3’9” successfully.  Unfortunately about five months ago he came in from the field with a fat hind leg.  After treating it like a soft tissue injury for two months he was still off with heat and swelling.  X-Rays showed that  he tore a ligament and pulled a piece of bone with it and the pastern joint surface is very jagged. It is not an injury that can be helped through surgery.  Dr. Richardson at New Bolton looked at the films and said that if he is locked up for 6 months he could have a 50/50 chance of being serviceably sound to be ridden lightly.  (That was 3 months ago).  It is heartbreaking to say that my investor has backed out and I am not capable of supporting Thunder.  I am hoping that this may get out to enough people that maybe someone will know someone who is interested in adopting him. The vet did say that he could be turned out in a field and could still have a chance to come sound; it would just take a lot more time (a year or more)  and a bit of luck.  So please pass this to anyone you can think of that may know someone who needs a babysitter, or who has a stall and is willing to adopt him with the hopes that he comes sound.  I can not keep him for much longer, so any leads are greatly appreciated.

I am looking to find placement for my horse on the right. Her name is Heidi, and she is 21 I believe. I have not looked up her registry. I purchased her for $350.00 in Dec. 2005 after I lost my mare of 12 years to cancer. She came from a home where her pasture was in the woods and was just rocks and trees and dirt. Heidi was extremely thin and stiff. A friend of mine called and was worried that a meat buyer would get her since she was so cheap. I rode her and decided to bring her home. I put her on beet pulp, corn oil, equine senior, and Aniflex Complete. She also gets timothy hay and constant turnout. We have a barn that the horses can come and go as they please. Since then she has gained weight lost her stiffness and turned in to a fantastic mare. Unfortunately she does not like our ponies. I have two ponies and a QH gelding.I also have two daughters ages 9 and 7 whoride. Heidi kicks at the ponies even if the kids are around. Sadly, I need to find different placement for her. She is up to date on her shots but not her coggins. She is 17.1 hands.

Gorgeous 7yr. old TB mare, with outstanding conformation. She has already had a foal by a Welsh cob, is a terrific mother, and easy to breed (see pic for mare and foal). At 15.3 hands, she is an excellentchoice to breed quality ponies. She has developed a non-genetic cataract in her left eye. I am no longer breeding horses, so I need to place her into a good home. I am asking a small donation to Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue, which I will match up to $250. Please help find this lovely horse a home. Contact Robin @ 410-877-1677 or Robin.Lewis@huber.com

17.2 HH chesnut throughbred about 10 years old.  He is very friendly and gentle on the ground.  He loves treats and loves to be brushed and fussed over.  He is good with the farrier and with shots.  He is an easy horse to ride in the ring and he loves trail rides.  He does not spook or get nervous about anything on trail rides.  He has been to Fair Hill several times and has met bikers, hikers, gone through streams and over bridges.  He gets a bit nervous at shows.  Because he has arthritic back legs, I have never jumped him more than about 18".  He does walk, trot and canter.  I am looking for a good permanent home for him.  He will come with a full compliment of blankets that are only about two years old and I can offer an 18" saddle and a bridle, for a small fee.  I will have to look for his old girth.  Call Nina at 302-743-8173.

This guy is just off the track (about 30 days now) and needs a new career. I have him targeted for UPPER level dressage. He is a phenomenal mover with a fabulous mind. He is honest and kind and a love to work with. He is also blessed with outstanding abilities that will make him a very rare find (balance, impulsion, natural cadence with low set hocks, strong gaskins and exceptional freedom through the shoulder and back. His topline is extremely strong). He is 4 coming 5, about 16+ hands at the moment, has no vices or issues. $5,000. to an approved, qualityhome.

Please call Heidi 610-845-3607

10-year-old registered Appendix Quarter Horse mare needs a home.   I bought her in February and she went lame 60  days later.  I have been keeping her somewhat sound on Adequan, but  have decided that she needs to be retired from riding (except  walking).  I have had extensive vet services for her and have exhausted the recommended options (with the exception of surgery on  both front knees) She has arthritis in her knees and she sometimes  stumbles at the trot and canter.  She is very pretty (flea bitten  gray with dark mane), has nice confirmation and is 15.1 hands.  She  has no vices and is a very sweet girl.  I think she would make a  very nice brood mare or a pasture pet.  She is up to date on all  shots, had teeth floated, etc.

9 year old 14.1hh chestnut pony mare, rescued from the sale. She does gait...but it is sporadic. She is very gentle..but a little shy.
She needs work with cantering. Nykony has Glaucoma and will require eye drops and/or eye removal. This would cost about 350-500. I am  willing to train the mare and even free board her for a while.
Reference check is required. Email Kendra: deviousdevo@gmail.com

28 year-old dark bay TB mare.  She is best suited as a companion horse or a 30-40 minute walk on flat trails.  She has been a great beginner horse for our family.  She has a great personality and is very calm.  If interested please call Deanna @ 410-489-2435.

8 yr old JC Reg TB Gelding, 16.1, bay. Was raced, retired Sound with Clean Legs! Started by professional for Hunters, does WTC & over small cavalleti nicely, but he is still very green. Teenage daughter no longer has time to give him what he needs, so he must be sold. Smart & sane, not at all spooky. Longes nicely. Needs some work standing in cross-ties and standing at mounting block. Easy to catch in large field, comes to you for his share of loving! Has very nice feet, but will require shoes when in regular work. He has a lovely trot and even nicer canter, but does need work to be consistant. Does not hold head high, uses snaffle bit, no other aids. Please consider this fellow! We are asking $2500, but to a very good home who will use him & love him, it is negotiable. Please call Laura at Home  410-531-5509 or cell 410.707.7154. Horse is located in Glenwood, MD, just off Route 70.

Little Speed Bump: 9 yo Bay Thoroughbred gelding, 15.2 h. Raced briefly at Charlestown. I have had "Bump" for 6 yrs and have used him for pleasure riding. He is a loveable guy who needs a home where he can get the attention he deserves. He has not had any health or lameness issues since I have had him. BREEDER LEAVING THE GAME-
GETTING THESE GUYS AND GIRLS INTO EXCELLENT HOMES IS MY TOP PRIORITY!

2) 7yo, 16H Black gelding. The Black gelding has returned from the trainers, he has a super soft mouth and 3 very comfy gaits. He will win the local shows and would suit a confident intermediate rider. This horse is just stunning. Would be very suitable for a lady that wants to primarily trail ride or do some light ring work one or two days a week. Does not have the fabulous movement for the big shows. Hauls like a pro so he would be easy to trailer to the park. Has a calcium deposit on an ankle so no jumping but sound. He does crib. Will lease him with a 100% guarantee. If he doesn't work out for any reason, we will take him back. Gets along very well with babies.
3) 7yo. Bay mare. 15.2H. This is a very serious show horse prospect. She had a foal in 2006, no problems. Retired sound from racing, perfectly clean legs. She is truly a 10 mover and would excell in the dressage arena yet she LOVES to hack cross country. Goes alone or in a group. We did alot of re-training with her prior to her having a foal. I had hoped to place her as an event horse prior to her being sold into a breeding partnership, as she loved the work. Mild cribber, easily controlled with a strap. Very, very pretty. Price reduced to $2500. (firm) - photo at left
  4) Broodmare, in foal to Artax, due in February. This is for a serious TB breeder. Won over $90,000 and plenty of black type. $15,000. Due in February. 16.1H, gorgeous!
  5) Now home from the college program and needs a home as a trail-riding type of horse. She is sound and has a nice amount of miles on her from being at school. Would consider a lease with option to buy!. 14yo. 15.2H mare. Currently jumping small courses. Suitable for local shows and trails/paper chases.

All are in superb condition. ANY OF THESE HORSES PLACED THROUGH THE MIDATLANTIC HORSE RESCUE SITE WILL GENERATE A DONATION TO THE MIDATLANTIC HORSE RESCUE. I am a strong supporter of placement of retiring racehorses into very good homes.
Any questions, please call.

Kindest Regards,
Heidi

Wonder, 17yo, 16.1h, dk. Bay, TB mare. Had raced as a youngster at Penn National. She began doing local 4-H shows and Pony Club rallies at ~7 years old. She evented from the age of?8 to 11?and she has successfully competed through preliminary and schooled intermediate. Since the year 2000 she has been a wonderful broodmare and mother, giving us 3 beautiful sons. She is a very sweet, quiet mare to handle, loads, bathes, stands for vet and farrier, etc. At this point she is still very active and energetic, but I don't believe her heart is in the high levels of competition anymore.

I believe she is more suited these days for some local low level events or schooling shows, or perhaps some trails or paces. I've attached a picture of her in her competition days. We are asking $2800 but are negotiable with the price. Please have interested parties contact me at sarah_kreiser@merck.com or call 717-576-9742. Thanks so much!
~Sarah

Name: Benny Bean
Breed: Selle Francais
Color: Chestnut with white blaze, one front and two hind socks
Height: 16.1 hands
Age: 17 years old, birthday in June

Benny is a fantastic horse and friend. The previous owner showed him as a jumper for several years. I have had him for 3 years and have mostly ridden him cross country and jumped him lightly. I also did some hunter trials which he won in style. He's a nice big boned guy and is very brave. He loves water. He does get excited when he goes somewhere new. I believe his ideal new owner would be someone who rides pleasure cross country and might want to jump little stuff occassionally. I say this because he has a slight bone chip on his front coronary band, and I think it's better not to tax him too much. That being said, he is a high energy horse and needs an intermediate to advanced rider. He needs to be shod consistently every 4-5 weeks. Other than that, he is a very easy keeper. He likes to live outdoors, and he is a delight to work around. Contact Paige at pkcritters@peoplepc.com or call 610.857.3438 (please leave message)

"Doji Star" (above) This gorgeous ex-racehorse is looking for the perfect companion home. He had a really rough life when he was young, and now thrives on TLC! He's approximately 20 years old, 15.3 hands, pure black, and has a heart shaped star. He is wonderful with the vet and farrier.

We want to see him go to a loving home - so we only ask that a donation be made to the Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue in return for adopting him. References will be required to ensure he ends up in a good home. Please contact Jodi with any questions. jboyko@comcast.net 302-545-6400

Diller needs a home. He is an aged (20 years old) chestnut TB gelding.
He is an ex-steeplechaser belonging to the late Mrs. Louis Murdock, who was a huge supporter of chasing and foxhunting. I know he won at least one race in his career. Mrs. Murdock was also the proud owner of the three-time Eclipse Award winner, Zaccio. She passed away at Christmas and I have temporarily adopted Diller because he was going to be put down needlessly. He has a great personality, and can be quite a handful at times, but it's all in good fun (at least he thinks it's fun). He loves attention and any kind of treat he can get ahold of. He is unrideable, so is for a companion only situation. He is a cribber, but it is controlled by a cribbing strap. He is an easy-keeper and goes barefoot. He gets along with everyone generally, but has a tendency to be a little aggressive at feeding time. Please help me find him a home! I already have two horses and cannot afford to keep him for the rest of his life, as he deserves.

For all interesed parties, please contact Kate Hartshorn at (973) 713-1340. I am only asking that the adopter make a donation to Midatlantic or some other rescue organization.

Thanks so much!
Kate

A Success Story

Good day!

Just wanted to let you know that under your assisted placements is an ad for a 12YR Old TB Mare. Her name is Roxy and we adopted her at the end of October 2005 from Nanci Gardner. I Quit You'RE IT aka Roxy now resides in Dover, DE at Foxden Farm . She is as wonderful as her ad states, and has exceeded every expectation we might of had for her! She is currently in training and will be showing in CBHSA/ MSA this year.

Beautiful chestnut with white star, 16+H, just turned 3 colt.  Started racing and bowed a tendon so owner has decided not to attempt racing him anymore.  He is easy to be around and ride.  Owner just wants to see him go to a good home.  Great prospect for any discipline.  He is currently being stabled at Delaware Park.  He is also an easy keeper!  Mainly eats hay, small amount of grain.
